心得
Today is the last day of our adventure, yet also one of the most exciting day of our trip. We had been looking forward to this day ever since the start of the trip, for today, we are going to the Universal Studio. Universal Studio is a place full of wonder. We were amazed about this place: a place of any kids dream, and we were all so grateful that we could actually get the opportunity to come here and have this great experience.

Here, at Universal Studio, we were able to forget about our worries, our fears. We let go of ourselves and drown ourselves with happiness. We shouted and screamed, we laughed and smiled: this is certainly an unforgettable day that we will still think of many years later.

Other than that, the graduation ceremony after our wonderful time at Universal Studio is just as unforgettable. This ceremony means a lot to all of us. While saying goodbye to our middle school lives, we also welcome our unknown future. Although scared and unsure about what will happen later on in our lives, we are all ready to challenge ourselves and try our best in high school.

Day 10_9F

Melody、 David、Austin、Jenna Zoe

Today was the most exciting day of the whole trip. We traveled to the Sentosa island and visited the Garden by the Bay.

The Garden by the Bay contains thousands of colorful and interesting plants for us to observe and learn. The Cloud Forest includes the biggest man made waterfall which we can saw it from different places throughout the garden.

After lunch, we took the MRT and went to experience the gokart. We took a ride from the bottom of the hill to the peak, then we ride down the hill on the gokart. This was such a thrilling and exciting trip. Everyone of us enjoy the ride with our friends and hope that we can come back in the future.

Then we went to visit the biggest aquarium in the world. It contains all of the amusing fish you can imagine. We went through a tunnel where fish swam above us lazily, while we can walk right under it. It was such an interesting experience.

Last but not least, we went to the biggest shopping mall in Singapore. Our group enjoy shopping in the mall for 3 hours. Most of us bought ourselves some fashion items to remind us of this wonderful trip.

Day 9_9D

Although i’ve been to Singapore several times before, i never knew that there’s such a fun and challenging course here. Most of our classmates are still tired and grumpy because we woke up early in the morning, but the instructors were all very passionate, getting us all in the mood for completing the exciting camp. Some important principles in completing all the activities were explained to us by the instructors.  they were to Model the way, Inspire a shared vision, Challenge the process, Enable others to act, and Encourage the heart. These principles had been used by all our classmates throughout the activities. the principles can also be applied to our daily lives, making team work more efficient and successful.

The first activity today was the Electric Fence. The rule is to let everyone to cross a rope safely without touching it. We have a lot more boys than girls in our class, so mainly the boys helped lift up other people. But of course girls helped a lot too, we checked if anyone accidentally touched the line. The main point of this activity is to discuss the order of the people. For example, who should be the first one to cross over the rope first. Fortunately, our class, 9D, finished discussing the order already, so we successfully succeeded.
The second-to-last activity was archery. It has been five years since the last time I tried archery. We have a really tight schedule, so each person can only shoot three arrows. Despite this, I felt the strong friendship among our class. We help each other out. The experienced ones taught the inexperienced ones. Watching everyone try out archery and other activities really makes me happy. We still have three more years together till we graduate, so I hope everyone can cherish the time we spent together as a class. I really like this camp. I faced a lot of challenges and learned a lot from them.

in the camp we had a lot of really fun activities. They were both challenging and helped us in learning teamwork. one of the most interesting was the whale watch. the whale watch is not an actual boat, its just a plank that acts as a lever with a fulcrum underneath. the objective of this activity is to balance the plank for 10 seconds. This was probably the most difficult activity of the whole course. our whole class ran into several obstacles trying to finish this challenge, people actually fought over several issues because the heat was so excruciating. finally, with the help of our teacher and teamwork we managed to complete this challenge.  this activity really taught us the importance of teamwork. I am very happy that we can actually accomplish this as a whole proving our teamwork.

another fun and challenging activity was the tightrope. our task was simple, to go from point a to point b without falling. We had to hold on to our teammates in order to balance ourselves and move on the rope. Teamwork was also a very important element in this challenge. Not only do we need to have great balance, we have to rely on our teammates to successfully cross the rope and finish the task.

The heat was excruciating today. Everybody doesn’t want to leave the comfort of air conditioning. But the hot sun didn’t stop us from taking on the high elements challenge. All of us are familiar with rope crossing, but today it’s different. The height of the rope was twice as high from the usual one we crossed in Taiwan. It took much more courage and technique to complete the challenge. It’s really nice for everybody to finish the challenge together safely. We all had an amazing time.

The second-to-last activity was archery. It has been five years since the last time I tried archery. We have a really tight schedule, so each person can only shoot three arrows. Despite this, I felt the strong friendship among our class. We help each other out. The experienced ones taught the inexperienced ones. Watching everyone trying out archery and other activities really makes me happy. We still have three more years together till we graduate, so I hope everyone can cherish the time we spent together as a class. I really like this camp. I faced a lot of challenges and learned a lot from them.

The last activity of the day is laser combat. this was not so much of challenging, just teamwork tactics and how well we could compete against the other team. we played capture the flag with laser guns. the flag was hidden in a random location of the campsite. each team had to carry the flag back to their home base without dying, first to do so wins. this was all tactics, we had to find the flag, and get it back alive. Splitting the team increases the chance of we finding the flag, yet if we get found by the other team, we can easily get killed. if we move together we probably wont be able to find the flag so quickly but all of us can survive. no matter win or lose, teamwork is still the most important thing to learn in this event, how we cooperate between teammates is the key to beating the other team to getting the flag.

Day 8_9E

Yesterday, we passed through the customs and arrived at Singapore. In the early morning, we entered the Jurong Bird Park with anticipation. We entered the mystery world; we saw beautiful, colorful birds, which made us all feel very excited. After that we rode the bus to tour around the park, which made us feel more close to the nature. Later, we went to watch the Bird Flying Show. The host of the show then let various different kinds of colorful birds to appear in stage to perform. As a result of the show, the audience gave the show a round of applause. The birds gave us such an amazing performance. The host’s enthusiasm and the bird’s performance both made it an unforgettable moment.

Lastly, leaving the Jurong Bird Park left us a touching memory. The show would last forever, not like a bubble that would just pop easily. We truly felt that animals could be really close to humans. They are very easy to interact with. Humans should treasure the nature and resources around us.

Today after lunch, we first went to the Malaysian village. Malaysian village is village compose of many traditional things from Malaysia. They sell homemade traditional stuff such as unique looking bags, religious needed tools, colorful traditional cloth, food that made people felt hungry. They use a lot of spices and they are all spicy. Those people who live inside of the Malaysia village are mostly immgrants from Malaysia. It is a unique place since is in Singapore.

Little India is located in the eastern part of the Singapore River. It is a Tamil ethnic community, which sells a lot of traditional Indian costumes, special Indian spices and singular hand-drawn henna. In such an advanced city, seeing these old-style buildings and culture is very rare, appreciating what we saw today is necessary. Moreover, the fragrant smell of delicious curry in the air makes this area more unique and unforgettable. Furthermore, the little houses revealed the traditional lifestyle of India, which enrich our understanding of this culture. All these events have weaved us a harmony, beautiful and colorful journey.

Later, we visited the Merlion Park. The park is located near Central Business District. This park officially opened in 1972. A king from Sumatran saw a furious beast, which he thought was a lion, hence he decided to build a kingdom at here. The fish tail for the Merlion was due to the resident here was mostly fisherman, thus the Merlion was a combination of the lion head and the fish tail.

Merlion is a representative landmark of Singapore. It is a creature of a head of a lion and a body of a fish. The park was big; and it was bigger than we thought. Regardless of the temperature, we had a lot of fun site seeing this gigantic Merlion, and most importantly, our class had fun with each other.

Today is the second day at Singapore. We have visited various landmarks and historical places. Along the journey, we experienced different culture and custom in Singapore. We enjoyed the most while strolling around the street that full of clothes in Indian style.  As we admired the delicate decorations, we could have a better conception about the uniqueness of such culture. Today’s tour around Singapore definitely left a beautiful memory in everyone’s mind.

Day 7_9D

9D Jasmine、Tiffany Yu、Monica Yang、Hannah Hsu、Megan Lin、Cindy Huang、Samuel Huang

Jasmine

Today in the Malay Culture Village, we had the pleasure to experience their local pass time activities. We first tried their slightly adjusted version of spinning-top, which consisted of a string and a plastic, spinning part. To achieve the desired result, the string is to be strung around the plastic, spinning part, and held in a certain way. Then it all comes down to the flick of the wrist and sheer luck. Everybody had the opportunity to do this, but not all of us succeeded, as most people failed to properly throw it, and made themselves look ridiculous. Unlike that of the natives, who profusely spun the object every single time, we literally smashed the spinning-tops on to the concrete floor, sometimes having a few fly around, slightly bruising a few people here and there. This experience was somewhat nostalgic, as it brought back some of my own childhood memories, allowing for me to further understand their unique and simple, yet entertaining lifestyle.

Tiffany

The blazing heat and thick humidity became almost unbearable until we finally moved on into a cool shelter filled with what resembled bamboo leaves. Within the air-conditioned room resided two friendly elders, who slowly, but surely delivered to each of us the materials we needed for the procedures. One of the elders then showed to us their version of a traditional Chinese delicacy, known as the Zong Zi, which consisted of a folded outer layer that would contain the ingredients within as it is boiled under a consistent temperature. We were told to use the leaves placed within our hands to fold them into the casing that is crucial to the making of Zong Zi. Many struggled, as it required delicate handwork to successfully fold each and every one of its seams together. The patience of the elders, along with their thin hands, weathered from constant housework brought joy to our hearts, as their dedication and hospitality was something unknown to us before we embarked on this trip. Guided by their enlightened minds, we finally succeeded in the making of the casings, allowing for all of us to merrily gaze upon our handiwork, and display our gratitude to those who helped us with it.

Monica Yang

Today we had the opportunity to visit the Malay Culture Village to experience their cultural lifestyle. It also happened to be their Islamic Month of Fasting, which restricted them from consuming anything during certain times of the day. Despite this, they still welcomed and treated us with passion, allowing for us to feel comfortable even in a foreign place. Many of their amenities and customs were unfamiliar to us, while some, like that of foods, were quite of resemblance to what we have back in Taiwan. One such item was their Malay pastries, which we had the opportunity to make under the guidance of a friendly elder that resided within the village. This dessert had a peculiar taste, as it contained a sweet and savoury paste wrapped in green pastry, which is then finally served in shreds of dried coconut, similar to that of sugar coating. It provided us with a sense of passionate hospitality, which really showed their cultural love for other people and other cultures, even if its different to that of their own.

Hannah Hsu
Arts and crafts are a crucial part to the lives of Malay people, for it supplies them with amenities and tools that can aid them in their traditional lifestyles. One such example was shown to us in a more peculiar, or rather, minimised way. We were taught to weave our own mini versions of homemade, bamboo like baskets, which provided us with both knowledge and entertainment. The locals who showed us the procedures were surprisingly patient in contrast to our constant frustration when we struggled to successfully weave the baskets. Their caring and loving hospitality really gave us a push into completing our own lovely minimised baskets, which all of us will forever keep as a momentum for this amazing trip that we were so privileged to have embarked upon. Many parts of their culture has led me to realise the importance of cultural, and racial tolerance, as tolerance and recognition is what allows for us to further understand and care for one another.

Megan Lin

Hard work is something crucial to the survival of a small community of individuals, like that of a village. We next found ourselves performing quite an unusual task, as we were asked to try our hands on filtering rice by force. We each had a turn in grasping a wooden pole, which was used to crush the excessive grains in the rice crops, and performed a repeat of smashes upon the rice grains placed in the designated area. It was a lot of fun at first, but then we realised its dangers and potential fatigue, as the wooden pole felt as if it were adding weight to itself with every movement, tiring our feeble hands within no time at all. It came to us that the locals had to do this almost every single day, and unlike us, they have neither any time nor option to complain or to rest, for if they were to do so, it could result in certain difficulties for their community. From this we realised their hard work and dedication to their own society as a whole, not just for themselves, but also for those who surround them.

Cindy Huang

One part of out trip to the Malay Cultural Village included the visit of their homes, which at first, we were anxious and uncertain about, but would later turn out to be a plentiful learning opportunity. For today, we visited an abode registered under the name of Pn Jaliah, an elderly woman who welcomed us with serious passion and curious eyes. She was surprisingly open about her own home, as she showed us around almost every corner of the house, and answered all of our questions with patience and determination. Every single piece of furniture was different to that of what we have back at home, in terms of pattern, shape, or even sizes. It can be said that their cultural influences surround almost every aspect of their life as we have seen by visiting their private homes. Our mini tour ended with our own little fitting of Malaysian clothing, which were kindly provided by Pn Jaliah herself, who was also obliged enough to help out in our struggle to correctly put on the complex garments. Pn Jaliah’s hospitality and dedication to our knowledge of Malaysian culture really does somewhat represent their cultural tolerance towards foreign visitors, as they do not discriminate against what we wear or what we practice for religion. Instead, they are willing to spread their passionate love for their own culture, while respecting our beliefs, allowing for most of us to believe in their general love for anyone that resided within the global community.

This is the sixth day of our Malaysia Singapore trip. In the morning, we arrived in Melaka. We visited the Bao Sang Temple and saw a well that was locked for over a hundred years. We also saw the Zheng He Temple. It was special because it was placed outside the temple because their religion was Islam. Then, we rode the bus to St. Paul's Church. It was built by the Portuguese, and became a popular tourist attraction nowadays because the view was spectacular. Walking upward behind the church, we arrived at the San Domingo Fort. It was one of the fort created by the Portuguese, but because of the invasion of the Dutch, only a city wall was left. After we finished the schedule, we went to eat lunch.

Even though it was a very hot day, everyone was very excited to learn more about the country we're visiting this week, Malaysia. When we first entered the Bao Sang Temple, we couldn't understand why the statue of Zheng He was outside of the temple. However, thanks to our guide, everyone understood the reason behind it. Out of the Zheng He's seven voyages down the Pacific, he stopped at Melaka five times to supply and transport some materials. Those voyages was how the Chinese arrived to the South East Asia with Zheng He and his men. It was also why there was a Zheng He Temple in Melaka. Zheng He was held at high esteem and respect in South East Asia by the local people and the Chinese settling there. San Bao Well was also created by Zheng He. Zheng He was born into a Muslim family, so people were banned to have other idols. That's why the people put Zheng He's statue outside the temple.

Zheng He brought porcelain, silk, metal, gold, and silver from China to barter with the South East Asians for local products. Thus, the locals constructed San Bao Temple to memorialize Zheng He at the location where the Chinese first came on land.

The last stop of the day was San Domingo Fort. It was built by the Portuguese in 1511. But when the Dutch invaded, the fort was completely destroyed. All was left was a city gate, the San Domingo City Wall. We could feel the long history, and we couldn't wait to understand it better, so we asked out tour guide to explain it further.

We visited the Stadthuys, also known as the Red Square. The Stadthuys is situated in the heart of the Melaka Town, and it is surrounded by a Christian church and other popular tourist attractions. It was a cool and unique historical site. From the design and the outward form, we can easily conclude that the structure was enriched with long histories and cultures. We can tell easily that the building was built by the Dutch by its red appearance. Also, the Stadthuys was definitely a fine example of Dutch architecture of that period. It is considered the oldest Dutch building in South East Asia. We noticed that there were many similarities between the Stadthuys and the Fort of San Domingo in Taiwan. They were all built by the Dutch and they looked very much the same in their exterior appearance with their bright red walls. I think every building has its own story and history. In able to deeply understand the church, we have to look carefully and learn with all our hearts. It's a really great opportunity to discover the beauty of the building and their valuable culture.
Pictured above shows the offerings that the people presented to their gods, which included different types of candies, fruits, and Chinese dumplings, to get luck.

Today is the sixth day of our graduation trip. We visited Bao Shan Temple at Melaka. First, we visited Zheng He's statue. Zheng He was a great Chinese explorer that created great peace in Melaka. People made Bao Shan Temple to remember him. Then we went to see San Bao Well. San Bao Well provided clean water for his army. Zheng He built a wall to protect San Bao Well to prevent their enemies from adding poison to the water. After that, we went to San Paul's Church. We saw broken walls around San Paul Church. It was very cool and special because the stone was very different. It was built in year 1521 by a Portuguese General. This church is located at the top of the hill, we saw very beautiful view. All in all, we had a great experience and learned a lot about Malaysia history. We also made great memories at Melaka with our tour guide. Although we felt a little bit tired, we still enjoyed the great view at the church. We liked it really much and hope we can visit next time.

During our trip today we visited several historical and cultural cites. Our first stop was a Chinese temple called Bukit China atop of a small hill. When we entered the temple we were greeted by a statue of Zheng He. What was really special was that the offerings that they had on the temple included candy, which is rather rare and unique. Our next stop was St. Paul's Church which was founded by the Dutch. The buildings surrounding the church are painted red, which still remains unexplained to scientists and historians. We then proceeded to a hill behind the church and saw a statue St. Francis Xavier.  In conclusion I feel that as a group we have learned many things regarding the history and cultural past of Malaysia. I do however have a few complaints, I feel that a lot of time was wasted traveling on the bus and felt we could have used the time more productively visiting scenic or historical cites near our hotel instead.

Today, June 20th, we went to a historical place in Melaka, Malaysia. In the historical place, there are stories and ancient obstacles of a person call Zheng He. He was one of the best navigator and explorer in Chinese history. There was a statue of him beside the front of the door and there was a well outside the temple. The well was an important historical attraction of Zheng He. There was a temple beside the well.

On day 6 of our trip to Singapore and Malaysia, we arrived in Melaka, which was a place that Zheng He once landed at. During the Ming Dynasty, Zheng He led five hundred men to Melaka to increase trades and disseminate China's power. He accomplished a lot in Melaka, such as teaching native Malaysian how to build wells. And he also made Melaka more prosperous. During this trip, we saw a lot of historical sites that Zheng He left. For example, a well that Zheng He constructed. The Malaysians admired Zheng He, some even treated him like a god. We saw a statue in front of Bao Shan Temple, which was built to show people's admiration towards Zheng He. We also went to a Christian church, which was the oldest open church in Malaysia. This church was used to celebrate an incident 100 years ago, when the Dutch took over Melaka from the Portuguese. This took over the original Dutch Church. After that we went to the St. Paul's Church, which had lots of graves on the same mountain. Today we visited Cheng He temple, St. Paul Church, and the Dutch Red Building. We think that trip is meaningful. We learned a lot about their culture and their religion. We also learned much about Malaysian history from our tour guides and developed a growing interest in these ancient things.

It is the 5th day of our educational trip to Malaysia and Singapore. We had a visit to Mewah Oil Factory during this 5th of our trip. Oil is used to make many different things in our everyday life, for example: bread and ice cream. But, we never knew how the oil we used everyday is produced. This trip provided us an opportunity to learn how oil is made.

Mewah is one of the biggest palm oil factories in the world. They produce lots of different varieties of products including: palm oil, margarine, ingredients for chocolate, biodiesel, etc. They got a gigantic factory producing thousands and thousands tons of oil per day. With this great amount of oil, they either sell it internationally to other countries, different local companies or shops. Mewah Company also uses its own oil to make other different kinds of manufactured products. With all these different kinds of products, the company made millions per year.

The process of producing oil is very complex. But, the robots automatically do most the processes. To make the oil that we see everyday, many various steps are involved. And the resulting products involved different kinds of oil with various uses. These oil can make biodiesel, soap, cooking oil, oil for making bread, for making chocolate, etc. It is just amazing to know how much products can be made during and after the process of making oil.

The tour we had was just amazing. All the staffs greeted us with kindness and willing to answer our questions. They all can speak Chinese and English fluently. They are all very great guides and I had learned a lot from them, not only just about knowledge of oil, but also about how to be a great guide.

To sum this great experience, we learned how to make oil and what are the products can be made using oil. And we have the chance to learn how big a company can be. It is our pleasure to visit this great company and I would like to visit this place, Mewah Company, again.

Day 4_9A

Today is the fourth day of the trip, and we went to explore the national park. This morning, we had a natural touring around the jungle, which let us learned many knowledge about the plants. These plants are mostly be use for medical uses, for example, there was a kind of leaf that has fur on it, which can be used to stop bleeding and mosquito repellant. After we learned about the plants, we went on a hike and walked on the bridges. Those bridges were 20 to 30 meters above the ground, so it required bravery to finish the walk. In the afternoon, we chilled back in our resorts, and went to the water boats along with our group and tourist. We were all splashed and wet by the water from the river. It was very exciting and fun. In fact, we even went to visit the native people’s villages and saw the pipe they used to hunt. Some of us even got the chance to experience shooting the pipe. The trip today was overall pretty fun and exciting. And we were all exhausted at the end of this trip.

Day 3_902

“Taman Negara” literally means “National Park” in Malay. It was established in 1938. It has been developed into a famous ecotourism destination in Malaysia. Taman Negara was once called the King George V National Park, but  was renamed into Taman Negara after independence. It has a total area of 4343 square kilometer and it also has a reputation of world’s oldest tropical rainforest. Taman Negara has a variety of rare animals including Malayan tiger, crab-eating macaque, Sumatran rhinoceros , etc. Also there are a lot of animals you can only see at night.

Visiting the tropical forest is a really wonderful experience. Though the heat and the insects made us really uncomfortable, but our green guide kept on using his liveliness to introduce all kinds of animals to us. His incredibly sharp eye discovers all kinds of animals to us. The most interesting part of today is the Splashing Battle, nothing is better than splashing cool water in a hot day. This activity also made me realize that we need to try everything and not regret afterwards. At first, I was really afraid of water’s dirtiness, but I think I will be really regretful in the future for not playing with everyone, so I get in to the water and play. At night, waiting for us is the night walk. In the darkness, we help each other with all our effort. All the nervousness ,unknown animals and insects made us classmates closer together. We learn to care about each of our classmates and should visit the nature with modesty. Things we learn in the rainforest is way more valuable than knowledge we had learnt form our textbook.

Today is a tiring day. We woke up 5:30 in the morning, preparing for heading to Taman Negara National Park. We spend about 4 hours for driving to the park. Time past very fast since we chat and listen to music together. When we arrived at the National Park, we set our package in our room. There are a lot of room types in the National park, some are cabin and some are little tiny rooms. Even it cause a lot of unfairness, but still, it is in the National park. Our principal also remind us to think in the positive way and don't complain. Even though we are a little unhappy but it is still a different experience, and we hope we can learn from nature and live with nature. Also wishing tomorrow's trip can be as fabulous as today.

Day 2_901

Ariel Fang

The KLCC is the highest building in Malaysia. It used to be the highest in the world, but now it is the 5th. The KLCC is designed by a designer from the USA.

After this trip, we found that it is quit different from the 101 building in Taiwan. In KLCC, tourists cannot go up to higher floors in the building, but in Taiwan, tourists can go up to the 85 floor for sightseeing and afternoon tea. Knowing that we are able to experience a famous building, we are very excited. We had learnt a lot from today.

Day 1_9G
