Today we went to a Malaysian traditional village. After a while on the bus, we saw crops and trees. Because of that we knew that we were arriving at the traditional village.

The locals taught us different kind of crops and how much time they spent for growing them. However, they don’t have a scheduled plan for growing crops.

The farmers did their best to avoid using pesticide. Therefore, they fed owls to catch mice and planted yams to attract the snails in order to keep them from hurting the crops.

After the introduction, they brought us to the place they grew palms and rubber trees. They cut the rubber trees to collect the liquid of the rubber, and the liquid flowed into the cup. 70% of the liquid is water, and the rest of it is rubber. The locals gave us some of the liquid to rub, and it became like eraser. After that, they took us around for a look. They gave us some dry rubber liquid, and made it to a ball, just like toys. The local told us “The economic benefit of rubber was high, but this year the price went down.

Then we went to the palm field beside. The locals grabbed some palms, and used a knife to break them, then he started explaining the palms with different colors. When it started to grow, the skin was black and the inside was yellow. Later, the skin would become dark red. When the skin became purple red, the inside was orange red, and then it could be collected. The whole palm tree worth very much. The white part in the middle of the palm can be used as fertilizer. The rest of this can be used as oil. If dried, it also can be used as firewood, the trunk can be made into furniture.

In the afternoon, we experienced their traditional life style. We made some traditional baskets they used for wedding. When it was lunch time, teachers told us to use hands to eat. Because it is the first time we used hands to eat, we couldn’t eat easily. The locals taught us how to make a traditional dessert, and the most special thing was the thing inside the dessert--the brown sugar.

The last activity was the happiest activity --- topping. At first, everyone thought that they were very good at this, but the thing they didn’t know was that the Malaysian Top need to be thrown in the opposite way, so they tried again and again.

In today’s event, we learned a different life style, so we had different experience. In such a hot day, they could still live happily, especially for the girls who wore robes. For us, it was very hard to get used to the weather.

Today we went to a Malaysian Village, watched the habitants cut and collected the balata to make a rubber-ball. They used a knife to cut on the wood, then the balata came out and dropped into the little barrel under the tree. After collecting the balata, they would heat the dry balata to liquid, and sprinkled it in the club until it became a shape of big ball.

In the afternoon, we ate the lunch in village head’s house; the special rule of eating for Muslim was very fresh to me. Using right hand to eat meal? That was awesome!

Today I learnt a lot of new stuff, something like making the rubber-ball or using right hand to eat meal. I was glad that I could have a trip like this, and I would like to have another chance to have this kind of trip again.

Today’s weather was also really hot. The main journey today was a Malaysian village. We visited many different kinds of tropical plants, like oil palm, rubber tree and mangos. The local people patiently told us every function of the plants. I thought that people could live here was so amazing. They showed restraint in the bad environment and worked hard to produce raw material. Next place we went was also in the same village. An aunt taught us how to make a small woven packet and a woven triangle. Woven fabric is really normal in our diary life and needed to be handled with carefulness and caution. At lunch time, we tried the traditional way to eat. We used our hands with five fingers and put food into mouth. It was the first time I used my bare hand to eat. It was so cool! After our lunch time, they taught us how to make a local cake and how to play some of their traditional games. The Malaysian cakes were special. The soft and green epidermis made by vanilla bound with black sugar and looked like a small ball. It just tasted like Japanese matcha.

I think I will never forget this experience of myself. The shiny sunshine and special way of life made a deep impression to me. I finally felt what it is like to permeate with nature.
